Hard blow for Everton . Having failed to comply with the rules of financial fair play of the Premier League , the Mersey club was penalized with a withdrawal of 10 points in the English championship standings. A decision which brings the Toffees down to penultimate place, relegated two points from 17th, Luton. The club is awaiting “decisions in other cases regarding the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules” and has decided to appeal the decision.

“The club believes that the Commission imposed a totally disproportionate and unfair sporting sanction. The club has already indicated its intention to appeal the decision to the Premier League. The appeal process will now begin and the club's case will be heard by an appeal committee appointed in accordance with Premier League rules in due course. Everton maintains it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the Premier League and has always respected the integrity of the process. The club does not recognize the finding that it did not act in the utmost good faith and does not understand that this is an allegation made by the Premier League during the proceedings. The rigor and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission neither fairly nor reasonably reflects the evidence presented ,
