The merciless Victor Boniface opened the scoring on a serve from Florian Wirtz, adding a 9th goal since the start of the season in the Bundesliga (1-0, 14th), before Frimpong became a scorer returning from the locker room (2-0, 52nd). A few moments later, Wirtz swapped roles with Boniface and added to the score with a subtle lofted ball (3-0, 57th). In the classification, this new success allows Leverkusen to temporarily distance Bayern by 7 points (the Bavarians have two matches in hand). Frankfurt is 8th in the championship.
