CAN 2023: Cape Verde air-conditions Ghana!

While Egypt was held by a surprising Mozambique (2-2), Ghana and Cape Verde crossed swords this Sunday evening for the first day of Group B of CAN 2023. The meeting started strong under the The impetus of the Blue Sharks who opened the scoring quickly via Jamiro Monteiro (17th). Ghana thought they would equalize with a goal from Majeed Ashimeru but an offside position was flagged (36th).

In the second half, the Black Stars managed to equalize thanks to two former Ligue 1 players as a cross from Jordan Ayew was victoriously taken over by Alexander Djiku (56th). Cape Verde pushed to regain the advantage and Benchimol pulled away to serve on a plate Garry Rodrigues who scored in the empty goal (90th +2). With this 2-1 victory, Cape Verde takes a big option for qualification. Ghana, on the other hand, is already in great danger before challenging Egypt in the next match.
