Inter Miami: the underside of the Messi fiasco in Hong Kong

Lionel Messi had a funny experience in Hong Kong. If Inter Miami won their friendly match against a team made up of the best elements of the local championship, Lionel Messi was booed and whistled by the public. The reason ? 30,000 spectators had paid more than €100 per ticket to come see the Argentinian world champion who ultimately did not play.

How did we get here ? AFP indicates that the Hong Kong Minister of Sports said that the promoter of the match had committed to Messi playing at least 45 minutes . Without Messi, the local government could ultimately crack down and not pay €1.9 million in funding to the organizer. Cornered, the promoter even tried in the middle of the match to negotiate an appearance by Messi. In vain.
