After six months in the closet, the French PSG striker landed in Germany. The opportunity for him to relaunch his young career.
Placarded by Paris Saint-Germain since last summer, Hugo Ekitike seemed to pay a high price for his refusal to be transferred at a time when Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham were courting him. Six months later, the 21-year-old French striker ended up joining the German club. Loaned with an option to buy to Eintracht , Ekitike succeeds another Frenchman at the forefront of Frankfurt's attack, Randal Kolo Muani.
The former Rémois, however, experienced a day full of emotions yesterday. Arriving in Germany in the afternoon, the Parisian prayed that the two clubs would succeed in finalizing the deal, the German transfer window closing its doors at 6 p.m. In the end, everything went perfectly and Ekitike can now hope to finally relaunch his career. “It was very stressful. I was waiting for the deal to happen. I'm very excited to be here and proud. I can’t wait to get started ,” he said in an interview with Eintracht’s official media .
Ekitike wants to put on a show
Also courted this winter by Wolfsburg and Wolverhampton, Ekitike confided that he only wanted to sign for Eintracht. "Yes, it's true. I only wanted Frankfurt . I was waiting to come. That's why it was stressful for me. It’s the right place, the right direction at this point in my career. I really liked what I heard when I spoke with the coach. That’s why I made this choice . ”
After a very complicated Parisian adventure (26 Ligue 1 matches, 3 goals), the native of Reims now wants to prove that he is a top striker. Moreover, when introducing himself to the Frankfurt fans, Ekitike clearly put himself forward. “I’m a scorer, but I think I’m complete. I can play in all positions up front. I hope to put on a show in front of the supporters . ” Now on to the field!
